France

France is situated in Western Europe, bordering the Bay of Biscay and English Channel, between Belgium and Spain, southeast of the UK; bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Italy and Spain. The Mediterranean coast is characterised by hot rainless summers and mild and humid winters with an occasional cold north westerly wind known as mistral. Finally severe climates are found only in the mountains. High in the French Alps and Pyrenees, winters are long and snowy, sufficient to support ski resorts.

 
Rhone-Alpes

The region of Rhone-Alpes, named after the Rhone River which runs through it and the Alpes mountain range on its eastern border with Italy and Switzerland, is located in the east of France. The western part of the region contains the start of the Masif Central mountain range and Lake Geneva is on the east. Rhone-Alpes is particularly scenic with dense forests, huge lakes, deep gorges and picturesque mountains.
