Limassol
Limassol is the second-largest city in Cyprus and is located at Akrotiri Bay on the south coast of the island. It is the largest city in geographical size and is the capital of Limassol District. The city is a major industrial and maritime centre for the island but also attracts a wide range of tourists particularly during the summer season. Although the majority of tourists only pass through the city on their way to places such as Akrotiri or the Troodos Mountains, the city has a lot to offer.
The city's night life is vibrant with a variety of clubs and bars, meze restaurants and wine and beer cellars. Places of interest include the Berengaria Castle, Kolossi Castle, the ancient city of Curium, Amathunta and various other archeological sites dotted throughout the city. A world class marina is currently being built in Limassol which will offer a wide range of services and attractions and will consist of 1,000 berths for small and larger yachts.
Limassol is famous in Cyprus for its festivals, like the Carnival and Wine Festival and it is the base for many of the island's wine companies. The wines and cognacs that are produced in the region are of excellent quality and have won numerous international awards.
