Florida
Florida is located in the south-eastern part of the United States. The majority of the state is a large peninsula penetrating the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. It has a humid subtropical climate and has been nicknamed the "Sunshine State" however its high summer temperatures are moderated somewhat by the Gulf Stream. The Caribbean countries of the Bahamas and Cuba are nearby but the states' culture is predominantly affected by Latin-America.
Florida is well known for its white glittering beaches which are rated as some of the best in the country and enjoy year-round sunshine. The Sunshine State is also home to the countries' oldest city and port, St. Augustine, which was first established by Spanish settlers in 1565.
Millions of visitors are drawn to Florida's numerous theme parks and sunny beaches every year. Central Florida is home to Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and various other water parks. The nightlife is also buzzing with a diverse range of restaurants, festivals, bars and nightclubs on offer. For those after more of an outdoor experience, the Everglades National Park and the Big Cypress National Preserve are also popular.
